What this calculator does

This discount calculator online removes the guesswork from deals. Enter any two of list price, discount %, or sale price. Our discount calculator instantly finds the missing value, the discount amount, and how much you save. Perfect for checking store promos, comparing deals, or setting a target sale price.

How to use it

  1. Choose Sale Price or Discount %.
  2. Fill the other two inputs and click Calculate.
  3. Use Reset to restore defaults and try another scenario.

Formulas

  • Sale Price = List Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100)
  • Discount Amount = List Price − Sale Price
  • Discount % = (List Price − Sale Price) ÷ List Price × 100

Examples

30% off example: If List is 120 and Discount is 30%, Sale Price = 120 × (1 − 0.30) = 84.00 and You saved = 36.00.

From sale price example: If List is 120 and Sale is 84, then Discount % = (120 − 84) ÷ 120 × 100 = 30%.

Notes and tips

  • Round to two decimals to match receipts.
  • If you need taxes, apply them after the sale price based on your local rules.
  • For stacked promotions, run the calculator step by step in the order the discounts are applied.

Use cases

  • Quickly check if a promotion is actually a good deal with our discount calculator online.
  • Compare prices across stores or before/after a sale to see real savings.
  • Plan a target sale price or figure out the % off you need for a price point.
  • Sense‑check margin impact when you know your cost basis.

Stacked discounts (sequential)

Percent‑off deals stack sequentially, not additively. Example: 20% off then 10% off equals 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72 (a 28% total drop).

Use the calculator step by step: compute the first discount, then use that new price for the next one.

Rounding and receipts

  • Receipts usually round to two decimals on each line; totals may round again after summing.
  • If you're off by a cent, round at the end to match the store's checkout.

Troubleshooting

  • Getting a huge discount %? Double‑check that list and sale prices aren’t swapped.
  • Discount % must be less than 100% when deriving list from % and sale.
  • Don’t use a zero list price when solving for a percentage.

Glossary

  • List price: the original price before any discount.
  • Sale price: the price after the discount.
  • Discount %: the percentage cut from the list price.
  • Discount amount: your savings in currency = List − Sale.
